![]() Could you imagine metal components here? Just a thought Soul Models. All the suspension components are made of plastic, front and rear. The model is very light and rightly so, it’s an Ariel Atom for Christ’s sake, the car is based on a tubular chassis. I like the carbon fibre look material, paint work, and addition of metal photo-etched bits. The overall shape is captured well by Soul Models. The model is composed of plastic, resin, and metal bits. The Ariel Atom V8 has a suggested retail of 159.95 Euro. To possibly lower the costs and the overall price point, I suggest you remove them! They take up too much space, and we all know space comes at a premium for all collectors. Soul Models,I’m going to offer some advice, true collectors don’t have the space for this elaborate or over sized base. No worries, a little CA Glue and the model was back up to speed. Front shock, rear drive shaft, and some other bits fell off during transport. ![]() Unfortunately for me, my model arrived with some damage. Three screws to remove and the model is set free. The model itself sits on a plastic base with Ariel Atom V8 name and Soul Models logo on the opposite end. Inside the exterior box you find the model encompassed within a Styrofoam shell. The exterior box is larger than the typical brand, measuring just shy of 14.5 inches – maybe a hint of larger things to come? At first, the box seems very light, I questioned if there was an actual model inside (LOL). Since this is our very first review from Soul Models, I’m going to begin with the packaging. Each will be a limited edition of 1000 – 1500 pieces. Let’s face the facts, these are pieces other manufacturers choose to ignore because of lack of popularity or potential low sales figures. Their goal is to release unique, high-quality pieces and be first to market with scale replicas that us collectors have not seen before. A little about Soul Models:their venture started a little over two years ago, an idea, a dream, a passion. Their initial effort is the unique 1:18 scale piece, the Ariel Atom V8, a limited edition of 1500 pieces. There will be states where the only purpose for this will be as a track-day car.Our latest review is from a newcomer to the scale model scene, Soul Models from Spain. The one note of caution would revolve around whether the vehicle could be registered in certain states. This Altra Kit Car looks like it would be a blast to drive once it is completed. The kit also includes a steering rack, front and rear pushrod suspension, shifter and cables, and dual radiators with cooling fans. This engine provides pretty impressive performance in its natural home of a Civic, so it is hard to imagine what it will be like sitting in a vehicle that weighs less than half the weight of a Civic. The kit is designed to utilize a Honda K20A engine and transmission. What the new owner will need to bring to the party to complete this car, apart from labor, is an engine, transmission, exhaust system, brakes, wheels, and tires, along with springs and shocks. The items include a gas tank, seats, pedals, master cylinder, lights, turn signals, and mirrors. Apart from an engine, transmission, and a few minor items, everything that you need to complete the kit is there. ![]() The chassis has been powder-coated in silver, and fiberglass panels are also included, just waiting for you to paint them in your choice of color. It is unclear what sort of tubing is used, but a close inspection indicates that all of the welds seem to be of good quality. Your starting point for this kit is a tubular chassis. ![]() The kit is located in Houston, Texas, and is listed for sale here on eBay. You can park what looks like a nicely made kit in your workshop for a BIN price of $11,000. This Altra is a reproduction of the Ariel Atom, and the owner makes it abundantly clear that not only isn’t it an Atom, but it is part of the conditions of sale that the new owner does not attempt to represent it as such. The venerable VW Bug used to be the most common basis for a kit, but it is now possible to buy impressive kits from a variety of manufacturers. Over the decades, the kit car scene has become increasingly more sophisticated, and the performance levels have also increased enormously.
